Phytonutrients for Venus
The Regular Cute Preface:
This post is meant to be paired with The Confronting Venus: A 40 Day Venusian Quest that Mandy Wilde [ @WildeMedium on IG ] and myself are doing on Instagram for the duration of Venus going retrograde in Leo. We post one thing every day that hopefully inspires you to connect with Venusian Energies.
If you have not read the Introductory to the Holographic Herbal post, I recommend doing so! If you are new to astrology and chakras, you may become lost. The Introductory Post walks you through how I use color, intuition, astrology and anatomy, and phytonutrients in one healing practice for Body Literacy and Intuitive Eating.

Holographic Phytonutrients
As I get closer to graduating from school, my teacher encourages me to think about the type of practitioner I want to be. I have always known I wanted to teach my special Phyto Holographic version of Intuitive Eating and Body Literacy, but I needed the right verbiage to express how exactly I do it. Being a lonely kid who was brought up by a strict and religious Sicilian-American father, and an incredibly superstitious Sicilian-American mother, I was never able to talk about the beautiful spiritual experiences I had. I kept my practice to myself, and I never had an altar until I moved out of my childhood home. My self was the altar; silent inside my mind, and this is where I did all my magic far from judgment. The downfall to this was that I never developed the confidence or the words to talk about my practice. In my mid-twenties, I dated a biologist who was incredibly intelligent, and he hung in crowds that talked about Quantum Physics. I never understood it [who actually does?], but I can talk about it and listen to conversations pertaining to Quantum Physics until I run out of literal energy. I always envisioned myself being able to merge magic and science together, and felt that Quantum Physics could help to bridge that gap. I know I’m not alone in this. Regardless, this was a dream of mine that had gone cold, because I never found the right mentor to teach how to do it properly until I stumbled on my school’s web page. My teacher, Bonny Casel, ND, holds many professional titles as a naturopath, herbalist, and vibrational plant medicine. She is the President Chair of the Flower Essence Society here in the UK, and is the founder of Quantum Botanicals. She was taught Quantum Physics by her step-father who was a scientist and was involved in Quantum Physics social circles. She met Stephen Hawking, and was inspired to merge spirituality and science together. I thought I met wizards before, but she truly is A Wizard by my standards. She’s given me the ability and the courage to learn, connect, and research.
So, after a chapter on phytonutrients, I was inspired to start a Master Spreadsheet of Holographic Phytonutrients that I won’t shut up about on Threads. Mars entered my 5th House Virgo, and I began a database for each phytonutrient, their color, associated chakra, zodiac sign, body system/organ, wavelength, frequency, how these phytonutrients speak to all of these components and more. I almost don’t want to type out what it entails, because the work I’ve done is so massive it’s almost embarrassing. Regardless, I researched each phytonutrient, the benefits it can do for the body, and how it all connects.
In my early 20’s, I was attuned to Reiki Level 1 and Reiki Level 2 by my best friend and Reiki Master. I don’t want to get too much into Reiki here, but essentially Reiki is a form of alternative medicine that originated in Japan in which the Reiki practitioner transfers energy from their palms to certain parts of the client’s body that are in need of healing. I only mention this because Reiki uses color and the 7 Chakra System as points on the body to focus this energy into. We will be learning more about chakras in this post. I’ve been using chakras and color to facilitate healing to myself for many, many years, and through school and other independent studies, I am only now being given the language to express the how and why [which is just so exciting to me!].
If you’ve read The Introductory Post for The Holographic Herbal Chapter, or if you’ve been following Mandy Wilde and myself on Instagram, you will have learned that Venus rules Taurus and Libra. You will have also learned that Venus is associated with food production and art, as Venus rules Taurus who is all about our relationship to food, as well as Libra who is connected to beauty and art. Moreover, Leo, the sign Venus is retrograding in right now, is associated with art, flair, drama, and expression.
So, what if we put food, color, magic, and healing together? You’ve learned how I use the Zodiacal Color Wheel to enhance my Intuitive-Intuitive [emphasis on the intuitive part] Eating practice, and how Eating the Rainbow is something I am passionate about. I allow color to tell me how it can heal me, and I focus on making sure I get more foods that are naturally the color I am wanting or craving. The most important part of Intuitive-Intuitive Eating is research. Learning how and why a certain food or color is calling out to me is the key. This plays a huge role in my Plant Mediumship practice as well as Body Literacy, and I will one day write about that. However, in this post, we will learn about phytonutrients, but specifically phytonutrients that are ruled by, or connected to Venus.
What is a phytonutrient?
Phytonutrients are chemical compounds that are found in plants, veggies, & fruits. They are what give our food their color, and are divided into categories depending on the color they express in different fruits and vegetables.
So how do we merge it all together?
First, let's establish what body systems Taurus & Libra are associated with in Medical Astrology. Below I’ve added two infographics: the first one shows which color and house Taurus and Libra are associated with, and the second infographic shows the extended outline of which body system, body parts, and organs Taurus and Libra rule in Medical Astrology. Medical Astrology was practiced parallel to diagnosing and treating illness in many cultures across time. It has made a comeback again recently.
Did you notice the Artist's Color Wheel layered with the Zodiacal Wheel? Just to reiterate, Taurus correlates to the color Red-Orange, and Libra correlates to the color Green. This Zodiacal Color Wheel is taught by Judith Hill, an author of many Medical Astrology texts, in her Astrological Nutrition Class.
Yes, you see that correctly- that is The Earth Star Chakra which I will be blogging about soon. I’ve made connections to The Earth Star Chakra and naturally black-colored foods, as well as their phytonutrients. I’ve obviously given this chakra to Pluto, Saturn, and a little bit of Neptune. I’m saving this blog post for Halloween🎃! Everyone who knows that Saturn is very prominent in my chart, is not surprised I had to research the phytonutrients of naturally black-colored foods. 🦇
What are Chakras?
Chakras are a part of an ancient system that originated in India, and they were mentioned in the Vedas, which was a large text of esoteric wisdom written from 1500 - 1000 BC. In Sanskrit, chakra means “spinning wheel”, and this refers to certain points in the body that are thought to give off specific energies, and they correspond to organs and systems within the body. It is said that there are chakras within the body, as well as outside the body, totalling in 117 different chakras. Many practices only focus on the Seven Chakra System being: The Root, The Sacral, The Solar Plexus, The Heart, The Throat, The Third Eye, and The Crown.
Based on the infographics above, Red-Orange is associated with The Root and Sacral chakras, since Red is The Root Chakra, and Orange is The Sacral Chakra. There is no “red-orange” chakra in the traditional chakra system, and I am not trying to make one up. I’m simply merging the two together. I know for myself, when healing my womb-related conditions, energy healers usually tell me my Root and Sacral are closed. Just from experience, it is not uncommon that these two chakras can be in need of some healing at the same time for the same issue. Green is associated with The Heart chakra.
Check in: Are you more of a visual person? If you are lost, scroll back up the the infographics!
Green, The Heart Chakra is called Anahata, and this means “unstuck” in Sanskrit. Its location is in the chest and the heart. The Heart Chakra controls our Prana, the storage and distribution of the lifeforce that flows through all of us. It’s element is Air, and it is said to be ruled by Venus in the Chakra System. Deanna Minich, PhD, CNS, International Lecturer, and “Queen of Phytonutrients” gives the thymus, heart, blood vessels, lungs, and acts of service to this chakra. We give the heart to Leo in Medical Astrology, but modern science suggests that the heart is a neuroendocrine gland that affects hormone balance, just as much as it regulates blood flow [1]. Hormone balance is ruled by Libra, and the Endocrine System is ruled by both Libra and Venus.
For Red-Orange, we have to pick apart two chakra centers: Red, The Root and Orange, The Sacral:
Red, The Root Chakra is called Muladhara. Mula means “root”, and adhara means “support” in Sanskrit. The Root controls our Apna Prana, which is the removal of toxins. It is the element of Earth, and when Earth isn’t properly tended to and cleansed, rot takes place. It is said to be ruled by Mars. Its location is the base of the spine. Deanna Minich gives the adrenals, the immune system, DNA, bones, skin, and our identity and survival to this chakra. For me, this is a bit of Mars, Aries, Saturn, Capricorn, Pluto, and Scorpio. Scorpio is co-ruled by Mars and Pluto. Mars rules our adrenals and our cortisol, the stress hormone which I’ve talked about in various places on this blog. Saturn rules Capricorn, and both rule our bones, and are associated with our ancestors [DNA]. I will expand on this when I blog about The Earth Star Chakra. Pluto and Scorpio are also associated with rot, rotting, and death, and this is why I place them both here. Pluto and Scorpio are related to inheritance, and what’s been inherited as in disease and illness, but certainly not limited to that.
Orange, The Sacral Chakra is called Svadhisthana, which can be translated to “dwelling place of the self”. Its location is in the pelvic area. It rules our Vyana Prana, which is essentially our circulation and attributed to our kidneys, bladder, and reproductive organs. Its element is Water, and it is traditionally ruled by Mercury, but there are some Venusian qualities here. This chakra is about creation and creativity. Deanna Minich gives the reproductive organs, urinary system, colon, fertility, and connection to this chakra. Mercury and Venus love to create, whether it is music, art, fantasy books, comics, etc.
Of note: there is also a Lower Heart Chakra, and an Upper Heart Chakra. I’ve given the Lower Heart Chakra to Virgo, who correlates to Yellow-Green. The Upper Heart Chakra I’ve given to Scorpio, who correlates to Blue-Green or Teal. I give sea vegetables to The Upper Heart Chakra, but I will save all of this information for another blog post.
We can further associate these chakras, zodiac signs, and color with food that contains phytonutrients that correlate to the respective colors using both astrology and the chakra system, merged with the teachings of Deanna Minich and her Quantum Healing modalities.
Putting it all together
Phytonutrients, Color, Astrology, Chakras, and more…
So far, we've learned what body systems and organs, colors, and chakras Taurus and Libra correlate to. Now, let's go further. What foods contain phytonutrients that correspond to Taurus and Libra?
Check In: recall that phytonutrients are nutrients in food that come from their pigments. They are divided by the colors they produce in our fruits & veggies.
Taurus
Keep threading the knowledge together: Taurus is Red-Orange on the Zodiacal Color wheel, which corresponds to The Root and Sacral Chakras.
Red-orange foods contain resveratrol, lycopene, carotenoids, and quercetin.
Resveratrol is found in foods like the skin of grapes, wine, cranberries, the vaccinium species of berries, and bilberries. Resveratrol has antioxidant properties, and has shown to prevent atherosclerosis, a coronary artery disease [2]. It helps to lessen the pressure on the arterial walls as the heart beats [3]. For those on metformin, this study should interest you: resveratrol has shown to enhance the therapeutic properties of metformin for those on it for diabetes, but is has also expressed the ability to modulate blood glucose levels, which in turn, decreases insulin resistance. This has a snowball effect on diabetic hypertension, combating chronic inflammation symptoms, and improving blood lipid. [4] Of note: metformin is prescribed to individuals with PCOS [ Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome ].
Quercetin is found in red foods like apples and berries. Quercetin may fight inflammation [5], which could be helpful in joint-pain, arthritis, inflammatory conditions, PCOS, PMS, endometriosis, and adenomyosis. It has shown properties to reduce TNF-alpha and interleukin-6 in test tubes [6]. Both TNF-alpha and interleukin-6 are cytokines responsible for inflammation [7]. Remember that red is associated with inflammation and the adrenals.
Lycopene is also found in red foods like tomatoes, guava, & pink grapefruit, and is an antioxidant and scavenger of free radicals and oxidative stress. Free radicals damage our genes. Antioxidants protect the body from environmental toxins. Lycopene has the ability to slow down the process of bone cell death, and therefore strengthens the bone structure, especially in those currently in their postmenopausal phase with osteoporosis [8]. Recall that The Root Chakra rules our bones according to Deanna Minich!
Carotenoids are found in orange foods like carrots, pumpkins, & papaya. There are higher levels of carotene found in blood of people with less depression symptoms, than of those who had higher [9]. The uterus is made up of 13 different carotenoids, with the follicular phase showing a significant carotenoid content [9.9 microg/g] [10]. Deanna Minich, PhD, CNS states that foods rich in carotenoids can support the health of the uterus. Carrots also contain fiber which help to bind excess estrogen in the stool, and eliminate it from the body. Excess estrogen develops into estrogen-dependent conditions like adenomyosis, endometriosis, and estrogen-dependent cancers. I make sure to eat carrots almost every single day. With Taurus being ruled by Venus who is associated to the womb and hormonal balance, carotenoids are a perfect Taurus-honoring food.
Naturally red/orange foods are an excellent source of vitamin C, which is necessary for the production of stress hormones from the adrenal glands [11]. Stress hormones are needed to regulate our fight-or-flight response as well as our circadian rhythm. We might associate our adrenal glands with Aries, who gives us the energy to fight. On the other hand, Taurus is also concerned with safety, security, and ease of living. Ironically, the adrenal glands are located on top of the kidneys, who are ruled by Venus. So, we have some red and orange overlap with the need for safety [Taurus, orange] and the fight-or-flight response as it relates to safety [Aries, red]. Vitamin C is also necessary for the production of the hormones estrogen and progesterone. Both of these hormones regulate the menstrual cycle, with progesterone being its highest in the ovulation phase to prepare the uterus for a fertilized egg. If pregnancy does not occur, progesterone levels drop. If pregnancy does occur, progesterone is needed to maintain the pregnancy. It is a sedative hormone in order to keep the body safe and calm to protect the growing baby [12]. Estrogen levels decrease in perimenopause and menopause, which is the reason behind the menopausal symptoms often felt by those going through this phase. In PCOS, estrogen levels can also be low, creating a cyclical pattern of debilitating and painful issues. If any of this applies to you, grab some red and orange foods for vitamin C!
Libra
What foods contain phytonutrients that correspond to Libra?
Libra is green on the Zodiacal Color Wheel, and green is associated with the Heart Chakra. Ironically, green is often the color used in spellwork and altar offerings to Aphrodite and Venus.
Green foods contain lutein, zeaxanthin.
Sea veggies contain iodine.
Lutein & zeaxanthin are found in leafy greens like spinach, kale, broccoli. Lutein and zeaxanthin are two carotenoids that can be found together in the macula and retina of the human eye [13]. Lutein is thought to prevent the eye tissues from sunlight damage, and it is commonly taken to prevent cataracts and vision loss [14]. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the eyes are part of the Liver Meridian, which the Kidneys also belong to [15]. In Medical Astrology, the Kidneys are ruled by Venus.
Iodine is found in sea veggies like seaweed and kelp, and I associate sea vegetables more on the Scorpio side of the wheel, as Scorpio is associated with green-blue [teal, or Deanna Minich calls this aquamarine]. However, this lines up with the Upper Heart Chakra, and can still be applied. Ironically, Scorpio is the opposing sign of Taurus on the Zodiacal Wheel. Recall that Scorpio is ruled by both Mars and Pluto, and Taurus is ruled by Venus, and therefore the Mars/Venus overlap continues to be played out here as well. Kelp and seaweeds are high in iodine. Iodine is a mineral that the body requires in order to produce thyroid hormones, and these hormones regulate our metabolism, and support brain and bone development during pregnancy [16]. It is the main component of the thyroid hormones T4 & T3 [17]. Remember: Venus rules the thyroid.
Naturally green foods contain chlorophyll, and it can act as a purifier for the blood, promote circulation, and is also an antioxidant [18]. Remember what I said about the heart being a neuroendocrine gland that affects hormone balance and blood flow. Fire, the element of Leo, is associated with blood, the heart, and our drive in Western Astrology. However, in Ayurveda, Fire [agni] is associated with the digestion, metabolic processes, and the Solar Plexus Chakra. Lastly, the structure of chlorophyll is also similar to hemoglobin. [19] The difference between the structures is that hemoglobin has an iron ion, and chlorophyll has a magnesium ion [20, 21]. The chlorophyll molecule consists of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen. It absorbs the yellow and blue color wavelengths, and reflects green, which is why plants are green in color. Hemoglobin is present in our red blood cells, and it is what gives our blood its red color. It transports oxygen throughout the body, and is also composed of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen.
Bonus for the Musical Nerds:
It has been said that you can eat foods that create a symphony of sounds, as colors present a different wavelength and frequency. Fritz-Albert Popp, known for his research on biophotons developed a device that tells how fresh foods are, due to the frequency they resonate at. Even each organ in our bodies resonates at certain frequencies, but maybe that’s a post for another time. In any case, does Red, Orange, and Green correlate to a wavelength, frequency, and note? They do! Check out the infographic I made below!
So, how do I use all of this information?
In my Introductory to The Holographic Herbal post and my Rose & Rose Hips post, I talk about how I worked with all of this information together. I have always used color, astrology, and the chakra system to enrich my healing journey, as well as strengthen my personal practice and intuition. It has certainly bolstered my Plant Mediumship work that I’ve recently begun, and in doing so, I’ve started to have a real relationship with food without guilt or fear. As someone with chronic conditions, eating can be a burdensome process. Anything I eat can become an inflammatory trigger. I have to be careful, and that makes food not fun or enjoyable. I know a lot of people with chronic conditions can relate.
I have been having to try different types of diets and recipes for school, and bringing in this added layer of color, astrology, and spirituality has brought vibrancy into my kitchen for the first time ever. Taking the fear away from eating has opened up the space to connect with my food, and listen to what it can offer my body. When I started creating my Master Spreadsheet for Holographic Phytonutrients, I wanted to learn everything I could about how each color offers its own benefit, and in the back of my mind, it felt like I was tapping into a lost language between human and plant. In the middle of this great, big undertaking, I stumbled on Deanna Minich’s work while trying to find any information at all about biophotons [spoiler alert: there is very little literature on it]. As mentioned before, Deanna Minich is Clinical Nutrition Scientist who specializes in phytonutrients. Her work on phytonutrients, color, and chakras bolstered the work I was creating, and it all aligned in such an eerie way. I truly believe recognizing the healing benefits of food by their color is ancestral wisdom, and I think this might have been how our ancestors were able to intuit some of the healing properties of fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers. As a performer and artist, color is an easy way for me to connect with both my internal and external worlds. It acts as a tool and visual aid in which I can better express emotions and thoughts, as well as assimilate information easier.
How can you use all of this information? It is truly up to you as an artist and magician. One suggestion would be to choose a particular energy you want to honor. Let’s say for instance, you want to connect with the energy of Venus. I would try to implement more red/orange and green foods into your daily diet routine. Or maybe you want to support the womb, and therefore I’d suggest trying to eat more carotenoid-rich foods like carrots, papaya, oranges, and mangos. From experience, when my monthly bleed is scant for whatever reason, I eat more citrus and almost instantly see a richer, more vibrant bleed. Another way would be to see which fruits and vegetables you gravitate towards, eat it, and observe your thoughts, feelings, and revelations. Make sure to write them down! Then, research into the phytonutrients and minerals that the food contains, and see if it matches up to the specific healing you were after.
So, this is my personal practice: a cultivation of the enlightenment and teachings of my mentor Bonny Casel, the Zodiacal Color Wheel as taught by Judith Hill, the chakra system, astrology & anatomy, Plant Mediumship, and the deep-dive I did into Deanna Minich’s work on phytonutrients and how she teaches that viewing fruit and vegetables as an addition to a spiritual practice is for anyone. I’m not trying to reinvent chakras or astrology, but I am trying to make food less of an issue by inviting it into my spiritual practice through the lens of color and other modalities of healing wisdom, and I hope it’s inspired you to do the same. If nothing else, maybe I’ve made the healing qualities of food easier to remember through color and spirituality for my fellow creatives and magicians.
Here is how I am able to retain the information with the use of color, astrology, and the chakra system:

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, I lost all of my jobs, and had to completely restart my life. Things are so much better than three years ago, because I decided to go to school to pursue a very old dream and passion of mine: becoming a Holistic Practitioner and merging Science with Spirituality. I am still in school, and have two years left until I reach my certification. There are diploma courses afterwards that I would like to take to ensure I get the most out of my education. I am still, however, unemployed. I’d like to ask, if you got something out of this post, and you are financially in a place to donate, please do. Every bit counts. It takes a lot of energy, time, and resources to research this much into the blog posts I create, and sometimes I have to take independent courses or purchase books to go beyond my studies. With your help, I can optimize my education by obtaining a diploma, and in turn, can continue to share everything I learn on this website. Click the button below to donate to my Ko-Fi.
